Description
There are gestures that seem to arise from a moment of pure revelation. Marisu Solís vividly recalls the day when, in her studio, a soft gust of air lifted a small piece of light beige tissue paper she had left on the table. That subtle, almost invisible movement sparked the idea that would become Hat in the Wind, a work where collage and graphic gesture converge to capture the fleeting nature of motion.
The original piece —beautifully reproduced here as a high-quality fine art print— combines light beige tissue paper with cut fragments of diverse papers that the artist has intervened, over which Solís applies an energetic yet refined black acrylic stroke. The palette is intentionally restrained: black, grey, white, and beige, a limited range that amplifies the visual impact of the central gesture.
This gesture —a large circular sweep extending upward to the left and downward to the right— creates the impression of something suspended, almost dancing. It is this intuitive rotation that inspired the title Hat in the Wind, evoking the image of a hat caught by the wind, spinning freely, transformed into pure expressive movement.
Despite the intensity of the stroke, the composition maintains a superb sense of balance. The layers of paper, the deliberate empty spaces, the texture, and the strength of the black gesture come together to form an elegant abstract work, defined by personality, precision, and expressive force.
