Description

During the colder days in Madrid, when Marisu Solís’ small studio becomes a quiet refuge, the artist surrounds herself with the papers she gathers during her stays in the Asturian countryside. In that intimate stillness, where time seems to slow down, she begins to cut, layer, and paint, allowing each gesture to reveal something essential. Forms and Absences in Blue emerges from this reflective atmosphere —from the desire to give order to memory through simple shapes, eloquent voids, and a palette that radiates serenity.

This fine art print reproduces a collage from her 2022 series, constructed through layered papers, blue tissue-paper transparencies, manipulated cutouts, and black acrylic gestures that alter and balance the composition. In this piece, Solís also incorporates newspaper fragments with typography, carefully selected and rotated 90 degrees, so that certain words or numbers appear only as subtle hints rather than readable text. These typographic elements act as visual rhythms, quiet echoes of everyday life woven into the abstraction. The atmosphere is governed by blue: soft tonal variations created through translucent layers of tissue paper and the interplay of overlapping shapes. At the center, a rectangular block composed of oval cutouts gathers both filled and empty spaces —the “absences”— forming a serene and harmonious interplay between form, silence, and spatial depth. As in all her works, Solís seals the piece with her circular MS stamp, marking the personal, handcrafted nature of her process.

Forms and Absences in Blue is ideal for contemporary interiors seeking calm, balance, and refined design: minimalist living rooms, creative offices, professional workspaces, boutique hotel lobbies, luxury guest suites, or wellness-oriented environments. Its combination of translucent blues, elegant black gestures, subtle typography, and organic forms brings a sophisticated and soothing presence to any space. It functions beautifully as a focal artwork or as part of a curated wall for interior designers who favor abstract, modern, and harmonious visual languages.
