Description

During the colder months of the year, when Marisu Solís works in her small studio in Madrid, she often pauses before the fragments of paper scattered across her table. There, among spontaneous gestures, torn edges, and bits of text barely visible, she begins to imagine structures born as much from what appears as from what fades. Forms and Absences Red 3 emerges from that quiet inner space —from the desire to turn the smallest elements, a cut circle or a slip of color, into a composition filled with emotion and presence.

This fine art print reproduces a collage defined by a restricted yet powerful palette: the vivid red of tissue paper, warm beige tones, the deep black of repurposed newspaper fragments intervened with acrylic, and the clean white of the thick printmaking paper beneath. Solís structures the work through two central vertical columns, each punctuated by circular cutouts she calls “absences” —open spaces that reveal underlying layers or disappear beneath overlapping tissue. This interplay between fullness and emptiness, between form and interruption, creates a refined and rhythmical balance that is unmistakably her own. The rotated or inverted typographic fragments add a subtle visual echo without seeking legibility, enriching the lyrical abstraction that characterizes this 2022 series. As in all her works, Solís finishes the piece with her circular stamp bearing the hand-designed initials MS, reinforcing its intimate, handcrafted nature.

Forms and Absences Red 3 is ideal for interiors seeking contemporary sophistication: minimalist living rooms, creative offices, professional workspaces, boutique hotel lobbies, refined guest accommodations, or curated gallery walls. Its combination of black graphic gestures, vibrant reds, and intentional voids gives the piece a strong yet serene presence, functioning equally well as a focal artwork or as part of a thoughtfully designed arrangement. Its balanced abstraction and modern aesthetic make it a versatile choice for interior designers aiming for elegant, clean, and contemporary atmospheres.
