Description

“Ochre” emerges from an intimate space where the memory and sensibility of Ana Guerrero intertwine with a creative freedom cultivated over years of personal transformation. After traveling extensively, exploring other cultures, studying film, theatre and therapeutic disciplines, and overcoming the accident that left her paraplegic in 1988, the artist found in painting a place of refuge and a channel for inner expansion. In this work, that search for stillness, silence and emotional clarity unfolds through a fully intuitive language shaped by loose gestures, fluid backgrounds and a rhythm that resonates with her life experience.

In “Ochre,” Ana Guerrero embraces a freer and distinctly expressionist approach within her practice in oil on canvas. The piece measures 81 × 65 × 2 cm (31.8 × 25.6 × 0.8 in) and 83 × 67.5 × 3.5 cm (32.6 × 26.6 × 1.3 in) including its dark-colored wooden border. It is built upon a palette of ochres, yellows and subtle touches of white that introduce gentle luminosity. Here, the artist replaces material additives with highly diluted oil, allowing the paint to drip and expand into layered surfaces with notable plasticity. The result is a vibrant and atmospheric background in which the stain becomes gesture, breathing space and a point of openness within her abstract universe.

The work is situated within the field of contemporary abstract expressionism, establishing a dialogue between density and lightness. The fluid and textured surfaces generate a sense of calm movement, evoking both internal landscapes and organic impressions. This intimate yet expansive character aligns with the artistic statement of Ana Guerrero, who sees painting as a center, a place of shelter and a space for emotional exploration—guided by intuition, inspired by nature, and grounded in a vision that moves between the microscopic and the cosmic.

For collectors and interior designers, “Ochre” offers a warm, versatile and visually engaging presence. Its ochre palette and expressive texture enhance contemporary living rooms, entrance halls, wellness environments, therapeutic studios and bedrooms seeking a serene atmosphere. In interior design projects, it pairs particularly well with dark woods, cream tones, natural textiles and organic or wabi-sabi inspired spaces. It is also an excellent choice for professional offices looking to convey calm, depth and character while maintaining a refined visual impact.

"What I’m passionate about in painting is that it activates my creative capacity.

I discover a new way to connect with myself—to express my inner world through a personal and intuitive language. My painting follows a thread, a center, a refuge that expands by crossing boundaries in search of stillness and silence.

I feel free when I let myself go, with loose brushstrokes over diluted backgrounds, where oil paint plays with its rich textures, subtle nuances, and an endless palette of colors.

Some series have emerged from inner sensations; others, from my love of nature—drawing inspiration from the microcosm of a flower or the macrocosm of the planets. Always in search of a sheltered space where I can delve into what is intimate and essential.

Her works are in private collections in the USA, Singapore, and Spain.
