Description
Some moments last only a fraction of a second, yet remain in our memory. During her visits to the gardens of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Annabel Andrews became fascinated by the instant when drops of water struck the stone and briefly rose again in a delicate burst of light and movement. Fountain V emerges from that observation, capturing a fleeting moment through the language of abstraction.
Created in 2007 using acrylic, casein, and pigments on cotton duck canvas, the painting belongs to the Black and White and Waterfalls series. Through an elegant minimalist and geometric vocabulary, Annabel Andrews reduces the movement of water to a refined dialogue of vertical lines, subtle veils of colour, and a restrained black-and-white palette. The composition conveys rhythm, balance, and silence, transforming a natural phenomenon into a contemplative visual experience.
With its refined vertical format, Fountain V brings a calm and sophisticated presence to contemporary interiors, from living rooms and private studies to boutique hotels and architectural spaces where light, minimalism, and serenity define the atmosphere. It is a work that invites the viewer to pause and appreciate the quiet beauty of a moment that would otherwise pass unnoticed.

"On beginning to wonder why art has been important to me through so many years, and knowing that vitality dies with an excess of reason, I could talk about the balance between instinct and reason, and how to express myself technically with materials and colour through spontaneous intuition -with an aesthetic feeling - for a cluster of forms and colors arranged to stir the reader in a way that music does.
In an outer world of chaos : abstract painting can appeal to our senses to find psychic equilibrium."
