Description

“Cowboy” by Juan Francisco Yoc is a mesmerizing Fine Art Print that blends imagination, geometry, and expressive color into a single poetic vision. Based on the artist’s original watercolor and mixed-media drawing on paper, the work radiates energy, mystery, and a profound sense of craftsmanship.

At the heart of the composition stands the cowboy figure, reconstructed through triangular sections and bold geometric planes. His oval-shaped hat, which contains a large all-seeing eye, transforms him into an allegorical and fantastic being —part human, part spirit, both guardian and dreamer. His costume, rich in detail and ornamentation, evokes an otherworldly traveler moving through landscapes of imagination.

Yoc’s creative process is one of technical exploration and material dialogue. The watercolor serves as the foundation, yet the artist incorporates graphite, latex masking, and multiple layers of mixed-media effects, producing luminous transparencies, rhythmic color transitions, and precisely drawn lines that reveal his mastery of draftsmanship.

“Cowboy” exists in the intersection between surrealism, cubism, and expressionism, while also echoing the spirit of fantasy illustration. Through his refined technique and bold imagination, Yoc transforms a simple figure into a symbolic narrative, where form and emotion intertwine.

Each Fine Art Print is produced using museum-quality Giclée printing on 100% cotton textured paper, preserving the brilliance, texture, and chromatic depth of the original.

Perfect for living rooms, studios, or contemporary interiors, this artwork adds a touch of color, energy, and mystery —a conversation between the real and the imagined.

Ultimately, “Cowboy” is not only a figure, but a metaphor for the artist’s inner journey: an exploration of transformation, courage, and the limitless language of color.

      Artist

      Juan Francisco Yoc

Juan Francisco Yoc was born in Guatemala City in 1960. From 1978 to 1982, he studied art at the National School of Fine Arts (ENAP) in Guatemala. He emigrated to Spain, where he has resided since 1991.

He has held over forty solo exhibitions in Guatemala, Spain, France, and Italy.

He has taught drawing at ENAP and has collaborated as an illustrator for various books and publications.

"He began to find flow in his drawings during his studies at the National School of Fine Arts in the early 1980s, subtly distorting academic balance, and gradually achieved thematic, expressive, and conceptual coherence through the tough battles and experiences of exhibiting in various local galleries.

Later, starting in 1994 in Madrid, Spain, that inner world and its weight of conflicts led him to rigorously explore various drawing and painting techniques. These allowed him to express himself not only with greater fluidity but also with a heightened awareness of content and formal direction, and consequently, with greater finesse and diversity in his use of the expressive tools of his artistic language.

There is, without a doubt, a certain paradox in observing the refinement of the conceptual, formal, graphic, and painterly thread that defines what we might call his mature work—a maturity that, in his case, implies the acceptance of his nonconformity rather than a renunciation of his rebellious spirit."
