Description

“Bridges and Stairs”, by Mexican artist Sandra Mazoy, is a gouache on paper that explores color and geometry as essential visual languages. The square format (21.7 x 21.7 cm / 8.5 x 8.5 in), surrounded by a white mat and a soft white frame (35 x 35 cm / 13.8 x 13.8 in, with 3.5 cm / 1.4 in depth), enhances the clarity and balance of the composition.

The work is built through bold lines and triangular shapes, where shades of pink, orange, and brown dominate against backgrounds in beige and ochre. The use of Mexican pink, a color famously employed by renowed mexican architect Luis Barragán, brings warmth and vitality. In combination with orange tones, it creates a vibrant chromatic presence that connects the piece to the cultural and architectural identity of Mexico. Mazoy’s careful play with pure and mixed colors produces a harmonious dialogue between geometric rigor and visual emotion.

Bridges and Stairs” conveys a sense of joy and vitality, while also maintaining a refined and sophisticated character. Its geometric and colorist language, with echoes of modern Mexican architecture, makes this a work of strong decorative appeal with cultural depth.

This is a versatile piece, ideal both for collectors of contemporary art and for interior designers and decorators seeking artworks with a clear aesthetic presence and a dialogue between art, color, and architecture, now available in the And-Art Works collection.

Artist

Sandra Mazoy

Sandra Mazoy was born in Mexico in 1975.

She is a Mexican artist based in Madrid, Spain. Her connection to art began in childhood, through the need to express ideas and emotions by means of painting and sculpture.

"I studied Graphic Design, later attended the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), and eventually completed a Master's degree in Art and Philosophy.

For 20 years, I taught at Universidad Anáhuac in Mexico City, giving classes in Morphology and Color within the Graphic and Industrial Design programs. This teaching experience deeply shaped my relationship with form and color. A thorough analysis of both concepts awakened in me a passion for observing them and led me to a constant stream of questions—in which each answer reveals a new composition.

When it comes to color, I have always enjoyed experimenting freely, without restrictions, as I believe all colors can coexist harmoniously, creating a wide range of effects and atmospheres. I see both color and form as powerful tools of non-verbal communication capable of evoking emotion and referencing different concepts—some broad, others highly specific. This is where personal perception comes into play, as each viewer brings their own interpretation to my work.

My style is geometric abstraction. For me, the raw material is the idea itself, which is then translated onto the canvas. My compositions reflect who I am, my experiences, my life, and above all, my way of thinking. There is always a trace of logical structure in my work, as it often arrives at a form of visual clarity or comprehension.

I prefer for each person to interpret my paintings in their own way, as they are not intended to convey a fixed message. They are, rather, a natural expression of my accumulated knowledge, experiences, and the visual imagery stored in my mind—emerging organically through form and color.

Morphology and color, the two subjects in which I specialized, provide me with the full range of tools to give voice and shape to my ideas. In terms of form, I explore composition, layering, scale, depth, and transparency. Regarding color, I work with its full properties: hue, saturation, contrast, brightness, and darkness, among others."
