Description

In “Snow at Night”, Antonio Ventura constructs an essential and purified landscape — a quiet dialogue between earth, sky, and emotion. Executed in gouache, aqueous pigment, and polyvinyl acetate on raw cardboard, the composition is clearly defined in three horizontal bands that unfold with a serene and meditative rhythm.

At the bottom, the white expanse of snow opens like a luminous silence; in the middle, a band of subtly worked greys reveals the artist’s delicate brushwork, where every gesture carries a restrained vibration; and above, the deep black of the night sky settles like a veil of stillness and mystery.

Ventura’s work transcends representation to become an emotional experience of landscape, where the horizon marks a symbolic threshold between matter and introspection. “Snow at Night” belongs to the series “Those Skies”, in which the artist explores the infinite variations of the heavens as a mirror of the human soul — a poetic and ever-changing stage of light, form, and contemplation.

Antonio Ventura

Antonio Ventura Fernández was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1954.

He studied at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios on Calle Marqués de Cubas under the guidance of painter Bernardo Sanjurjo for one year.

Subsequently, he worked in the studios of painters Guillermo García Saúco and José Luis Gómez Perales.

He has held over 30 solo exhibitions across Spain, France, Sweden, and Finland.

Additionally, he has participated in the ARCO art fair for two consecutive years. His work has been recognised with awards at the Castellón and Murcia Biennials in Spain.

At present, he resides in Las Navas del Marqués, Ávila, Spain.
